Carbon Reduction Targets
Essex Furukawa is setting carbon reduction targets to provide our employees as well as partners with a clearly-defined path to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions as an organization. We believe that communicating our carbon reduction targets and progress will catalyze additional action up and down the value chain.
Electric Forklifts Ready to Roll in Japan
The Essex Furukawa Magnet Wire plant in Kameyama, Japan is plugging in to its Vision 2030 carbon reduction goals. Early data indicates that this first forklift has reduced gasoline consumption by half. Once two more electric forklifts are onboarded, the plant could eliminate the use of gasoline at the location completely by the end of 2023.
'Lighting' A Sustainable Future
Essex Furukawa, through its on-going investment in holistic sustainability and Vision 2030, has begun replacing its fluorescent lighting with more energy efficient LEDs in its plants and office buildings across North America, Europe, and Asia. Many of the lights are installed with a motion sensor that automatically dims lights to 50% if it does not detect movement for 10 minutes. It then shuts off completely with five additional minutes of inactivity.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel Partnership
Superior Essex—the parent brand of Essex Furukawa Magnet Wire—announced a partnership with Delta Air Lines to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The partnership is aimed to reduce emissions from Superior Essex and its subsidiary brands’ air travel over the next year on Delta operated flights.
The CTC/PW Short Reel Initiative
Essex Furukawa is working to reduce carbon emissions by introducing another environmentally focused program: The CTC/PW Short Reel Initiative.
The initiative is specific to Continuously Transposed Cable/Conductor (CTC) as well as Paper Wrapped Conductor (PW), two products that are often ordered at specific lengths. Those custom length projects can lead to inefficient packaging, which can result in an increase of waste or requiring either lightly loaded trucks and/or multiple shipments.
