Ford F-150 EV Protoype Tows 1 Million Pounds

July 26, 2019

If Ford did not have the attention of traditional truck drivers, it does now. In a video that the company released on YouTube, its F-150 EV prototype flexed its muscle with a 1-million pound tow.

The video (which you can watch here) takes the two capacity game to a new level, bettering the 2012 Toyota Tundra pull of the 292,000-pound Endeavor space shuttle that was the previous benchmark for impressing an audience. It showed the EV pulling 10 traincars for over 1,000 feet — which was used as a metric because the company lined up 42 Ford F-150s, marking its 42 years as the No. 1 selling truck.

Ford also released a content item called, ‘Tough Goes Electric’ by Ted Cannis, Global Director, Electrification, Ford Motor Company.

It read, in part, “Full disclosure: I’m all in on EVs. Climate change … you had me at hello. But what we’re doing here is not just about air quality or rising sea level. We are all about building better trucks for our customers who have real work to do every day. Trucks that can do more for our owners. Trucks that meet new sets of needs. Because leaders lead,” he wrote.

“And to that end, I could not be more proud of our engineering teams. We are dead serious about delivering an electric pickup truck that again sets an all-new bar for what light duty trucks can deliver — not in the science project sense, but in the reality of what tough trucks need to do.”

The video come with the disclosure that ‘we’ve confirmed we are bringing an all-electric F-150 to market. Now, we’re showing you the capability you asked for by having it tow more than 1 million pounds.* This is Built Ford Tough.’

The F-150 battery-electric prototype is towing far beyond any production truck’s published capacity in a one-time short event demonstration. Never tow beyond a vehicle’s towing capacities. Always consult the Owner’s Manual.

Again, you can and SHOULD watch the video on YouTube.
